Strange Lover 1
Fall 2021
Necklace 6’’ x 7’’
Bracelet 3’’ x 3.5’’
Copper, red thread
I only have one living grandparent—my mother's mom. The others passed away when I was young. Since we didn't live with them, I have few memories of them. But I've heard stories and become curious about who they were. To me, being forgotten by people is the real end of one's life. So, I decided to remember my grandparents who have passed away. I found old photos, videos, and objects that belonged to them. Watching those recordings is strange because I see myself with my grandparents, but I don't remember those moments. Yet, there are still emotional connections.
My grandparents are like remnants of the past century, gradually being forgotten in the 21st century. Technology has replaced physical mementos, just as my grandparents are fading away. To establish a connection with them, I use both objects and digital photos. By combining the old and new ways, I explore a hybrid mode of remembering across two centuries.
